PERMANENT - Field Trials Officer or Research Agronomist - West Midlands

THIS IS A PERMANENT POSITION.
We are urgently seeking an experienced Field Trials Specialist, R & D Agronomist, Trials Technician, or Agricultural Trials Officer to join well established research team working for a global crop protection company. The Field Trials Officer supports the development and testing of new products and development programmes undertaken by the Field Trials team within the wider R & D Team.
Day to day duties will include:-
• Perform field cultivations (e.g. ploughing, harrowing, spraying, harvesting),
• Application of trial products at the field level
• Assessments of field trials - record detailed assessments of crop emergence, disease levels and the health of the crop at different growth stages in accordance with the relevant study plans and European Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO) guidelines.
• Accurately transcribe data from all field trials into the Agricultural Research Manager (ARM ) statistical software and perform initial data analysis.
• Work to the principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) & according to the guidelines of the Official Recognition of Efficacy Testing Organisation (ORETO) programme.
• Ensure that all data generated is to the appropriate International standards
• Trials officer must have appropriate experience to operate and maintain heavy farm machinery (e.g. tractors, combine harvesters, sprayers).
• Work is often carried out remotely.
• Also will have to supervise agricultural students in all aspects of the field trials function.
REQUIREMENTS:
o Candidates need to have at least one year's work experience in Agricultural Field Trials, or Crop Trials work
o Ideally candidates will be a graduate/HND in Agriculture/Plant Science/Biology.
o Must be conversant with the necessary procedures and protocols including safety (COSHH) and efficacy.
o PA1 and PA6 qualifications are necessary.
o Experience in working to stringent technical and quality guidelines is essential.
o Must be motivated, energetic and enthusiastic, able to work on own initiative and as part of a team when required.
o Farming and arable crop growing experience and knowledge helpful.
o Must have good organization skills and the ability to work remotely and to their own daily schedule with minimal supervision.
o Computer literate (ideally Excel, ARM and Access Databases, plus other MSOffice software) with excellent communication skills.
o A flexible approach to the seasonal nature of the workload.
o Full driving licence essential.
