FARM MANAGER WITH A DIFFERENCE - SW SCOTLAND

We are seeking a top flight beef and sheep Farm Manager for SW Scotland with the credibility, gravitas and public presentation skills for a prestige beef and sheep farming venture. This is a largely autonomous role for a manager who is interested in achieving the highest standards through monitoring and implementing best practice.
The farm is part of an estate and consists of 1000 acres of which 900 is grassland and 100 arable with 180 Suckler Cows and 800 Scottish Mules. Two full time staff are employed plus seasonal labour as required. This is a "hands on" role. The estate has invested in good facilities for the farm and is well organised.
The farm encourages visitors, including VIPs, who have an interest in farming for the future and the meat supply chain. The farm manager will be the leader and organiser for these visits which are designed to improve understanding and provide a forum for discussion on best practice. Alongside this aspect of the responsibilities the farm undertakes some practical trial work also.
The attributes required of the successful applicant:
• Credibility as a "tried and tested" farm manager
• Thorough knowledge of modern commercial suckler and lowland ewe flock management.
• Forward looking and open minded approach to commercial and sustainable farm management
• Confidence within a Farm Management Board reporting structure
• Confident and clear presentation style for a range of different audiences
• Team management skills
• To effectively propose and clearly justify budgets and plans for change
• Initiative and decision making
• Cooperative style to work alongside the Estate Manager
This unusual and challenging role will provide ambitious farm managers with a platform to raise their profile and influence the industry's thinking on future livestock farming practice.
