Position Overview

A ruminant advisor, also known as a ruminant veterinary advisor or a technical ruminant advisor, provides technical advice to livestock farmers, the sales team, and marketers. Individuals in this role should have veterinary experience so that they have a background knowledge on animal welfare, health, and productivity. Ruminant advisors help marketers develop effective strategies in order to promote their products in an appropriate and meaningful way. They also provide insights for improvements or changes that could be made to the company's offerings in order to better meet the needs of customers. Individuals in this role should have good communication skills as a significant part of the job is advising farmers and veterinary surgeons on ruminant health products and services. They may train teams within the company on animal welfare and veterinary matters. While various aspects of the job have been outlined, ruminant advisors can expect to spend about half their time providing technical support. They often travel while on the job, going to different farms to speak with customers.
