We’re working with an innovative company based in the East of England within the ag-tech sector, currently undergoing an exciting phase of growth. With a strong foundation and a clear vision for the future, the company is preparing for its next major phase of expansion, including a planned Series A fundraise.

As part of their growth strategy, they’re looking to bring on a skilled Financial Controller. This is an excellent opportunity to join a small, dynamic team where you can truly make a difference and play a key role in shaping the future of the business.

About the Role:

As the Financial Controller, you’ll be a crucial part of the company’s finance operations, with a focus on both day-to-day financial management and strategic support for growth. The role offers hybrid working, providing a flexible balance between office and remote work. You’ll collaborate closely with the CEO and accountants to drive the company’s success during this exciting period.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with UK financial reporting requirements

• Create and update financial reporting templates

• Handle bookkeeping and VAT reporting

• Prepare monthly financial reports

• Assist with R&D tax claims (working alongside accountants)

• Run payroll

• Advise on internal policies and spending controls

• Support the CEO with board reporting, including cash flow tracking

• Help shape financial strategy and forecasting

• Manage purchase and sales ledgers

• Coordinate with external tax accountants

• Maximise interest on bank balances

• Ensure corporation tax and other tax compliance

• Accurately forecast tax

• Oversee timesheets, expenses, credit control, and invoicing

The ideal candidate will have:

• At least three years of experience in a financial controller role, ideally in a UK SME or scaling startup

• Strong knowledge of Xero and MS Office Suite

• Experience with import/export (a plus)

• A full UK driving licence (the company has multiple locations in the UK)

• A CIMA or ACCA qualification (preferred)
